OUR ADVENTURES THROUGH ID10T FEST!
What happens when you mix comics, cosplay, panels, comedians, music, and Nerdery? The first annual id10tfest! It sounded awesome, so the Nerds had to check and see what all the hype was about....and we were not disappointed.

Presented by Chris Hardwick, id10tfest combined a comic con and summer music festival rolled into a “lootcrate” of goodies. Since this was the first one ever, we did not know what to expect from this weekend long party. At first glance, one thing that made this different than other summer events was the amount of cosplay mixed in with concert goers.
So, it was pretty normal to be waiting in line for food with an Alien right behind you. (Hey, Aliens gotta eat too right?) It was refreshing to see all the cosplayers representing all their favorite fandoms while walking through all the various booths that lined the vendor area.

The vendor area was a bit small, but that was probably due to id10tfest being new. That was never an issue because of the many things to do, see, and interact with at the event. If you weren’t taking pics with cosplayers, you could grab some laughs in the comedy tent. And they had some heavy hitters performing that weekend. The lines for seats in the tent wrapped around the festival area and if you weren’t early, you would miss out. But with the likes of Demetri Martin, Michael Che, and Nikki Glaser, it made total sense.
If comedy wasn’t your thing, the bands and performers were well worth the price of admission. From Weezer to OK GO or Girl Talk to Animal Collective, the festival had something for everyone’s ear buds. Rocking out to live bands and reading comics at the same time, who knew that even existed? Honestly, you really needed a game plan for this festival. But, that’s a good thing.

What we really enjoyed though was the panels. The panels were top notch and each one was worth attending. We sat down for one of the earlier panels just to get seats, but ended up staying through a few just because of the sheer talent in each one. One of our favorites was the Futurama panel, which featured voice actors from the show. To hear these actors riff with all the different voices they have used over the years was jaw-dropping. We definitely geeked out and if you looked at all the smiles in the crowd, we weren’t the only ones. One particular panel featured the Animaniacs and a live sing along of the “50 states.” This went viral on social media and teleported us to our childhood.

The last panel we attended was the Portlandia panel which included show footage and discussions about the upcoming season. This panel was non-stop funny and our own Kali Grant participated in the jokes. And if you are nice to her, she just might show the footage of that interaction with Chris Hardwick, Carrie Brownstein, and Fred Armisen.
Overall, id10tfest gave us what we wanted. It was a weekend filled with laughs, geeking out, and head bobbing. We’ve been told that next year’s event will be even bigger and we can hardly wait. See you next year, id10tfest!
